Delhi government hospitals to provide drugs at affordable prices

Delhi government will soon make available drugs at a very affordable price as it is in the process of setting up chemist shops in all the hospitals run by it.

The generic versions of drugs will be priced much lower than those of branded drugs sold at private chemist shops.

Government has already set up one such 'Jan Aushadhi Generic Drugs Store' at the GTB Hospital in East Delhi where good quality generic medicines and surgical items are being made available.

Officials said the chemist stores at government hospitals will sell unbranded generic drugs prescribed for common ailments. The Jan Aushadhi stores will be function from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm on all working days.

They said the hospitals will also procure their institutional requirement of medicines from the Jan Aushadhi stores.

The generic drugs will be procured from public sector drug manufacturing companies.

They said generic drugs listed in the National List of Essential Medicines prepared with the help of World Health Organisation will be made available in the government chemist shops.
