Racing against time to complete infrastructure projects related to the Commonwealth Games, chief minister Sheila Dikshit today personally visited various construction sites to take stock of the situation.

Dikshit inspected the Barapullah elevated road project which is being constructed to provide seamless movement of traffic to and from Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, the main venue of the mega sporting event.

She was accompanied by PWD minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, chief secretary Rakesh Mehta and other top officials of CPWD,
MCD and Delhi Jal Board.

A presentation was also made to the chief minister to apprise her of the pace of the work and other details of the project.

Dikshit expressed satisfaction over the pace of work and instructed PWD officials to complete the project by end of March 2010.

Officials said the work on the project is being completed under two phases.

The first phase will connect Sarai Kale Khan with Mathura Road and the total road length of it will be 2,654metres.

The second phase will connect Mathura Road to Nehru tadium which will have a road length of 2,080metres.

The elevated road would have two carriageways of three-lane each out of which one carriageway is almost complete and work on another carriageway is being expedited. Apart from this, two loops near Sarai Kale Khan and Slip Roads near Lala Lajpat Rai Marg are also being constructed to facilitate uninterrupted flow of traffic.

Dikshit also visited parking places being developed by the MCD over Sunheri Nallah and Kushak Nallah.

Later, the chief minister visited the casting yard of Barapullah Project at Sarai Kale Khan.

Dikshit instructed the concerned agencies to provide explanatory signages on elevated road to give definite directions to the commuters.

Officials said the entire area below the elevated road will be landscaped.

Dikshit said the elevated road would be commissioned in March 2010, which would provide relief to the commuters. It would also serve as an important link between Trans-Yamuna and Central Delhi.

She expressed confidence that all projects relating to the Commonwealth Games would be completed within the stipulated time-frame.
