A 'dead' AMC sweeper these days is running from pillar to post to return to life - at least in the books of the AMC.

This race to be declared alive, as you might have guessed, is not taking place in Lord Yama's kingdom, but in the hallowed halls of our own civic body.

When reports last came in, the sweeper's efforts were still falling on deaf ears.

Meanwhile, by virtue of being declared dead Bhupendra Purbia, a sweeper from Odhav Ward, also lost his job as the appeal sub-committee did not show any leniency to his grievous offence.

Purbia got his brother-in-law admitted to LG Hospital under his own name based on the health card book issued to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation employees.

He did this to ensure that his brother-in-law was treated for free.

It so happened that the brother-in-law died during treatment and the hospital authority issued a death certificate in Purbia's name as according to hospital record, the patient's name was Bhupendra Purbia!

Following the incident, the municipal commissioner removed Purbia from service for misuse of AMC health book.

Thus caught 'dead', Purbia tried appealing before the appeal sub committee, but found that his efforts met a dead end at their door.
