Dam issue: Kerala minister to observe day-long fast in capital

Seeking an amicable solution to the vexed Mullaperiyar dam dispute, Kerala Water Resources Minister PJ Joseph will observe a day-long fast at Birla
House on Monday.

"I will observe a day-long fast at Birla House seeking a peaceful solution to Mullaperiyar dam dispute. My move is to express solidarity with thousands of people who will sit on fast in Kerala tomorrow seeking an amicable solution to the issue," Joseph said.

Kerala and Tamil Nadu are at loggerheads over the safety of 116-year-old Mullaperiyar dam.

While Kerala says the dam is in danger and the region is witnessing a number of quakes, Tamil Nadu has rejected any such fears saying the ministers and officials of Kerala were "spreading panic and rumours" among people through media on the issue.
