Cyclonic storm: Police, fisheries officials put on alert in Puduchery

Puduchery administration has geared the police and fisheries departments with precautionary steps to ensure that the 'Thane' cyclonic storm, expected to cross Puducherry tomorrow morning, does not bring in any hardship particularly in the coastal villages.

Local Administration Miniter NG Panneerselvam said in a release here today that police have been deployed to keep tourists and others away from the sea shore.

Welfare Minister P Rajavelu held a special meeting with officials of Revenue Department to review precautionary arrangements in coastal villages and vulnerable pockets on the outskirts of Puducherry.

Special control rooms have been opened in the premises of Fisheries Department to enable people requiring help during any exigency.

Holiday has been declared to all educational institutions for two days from tomorrow.
