Curfew was imposed in parts of Baramulla district even as normal life remained affected in rest of the Kashmir Valley due to a strike called by the hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference.

"Curfew has been imposed in Delina and Palhalan towns of Baramulla district as a precautionary measure," police said.

They said there were no restrictions in rest of the Valley where the situation so far has remained peaceful.

"The situation is under control and there are no reports of any untoward incident from anywhere in the Valley," he said.

The strike, called by Syed Ali Shah Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference, had no effect on the functioning of schools and government offices in the Valley, the officials said.

However, shops, business establishments and private offices remained closed due to the strike called to protest against the civilian killings in Kashmir during the past five months of unrest, they said.

Public and private transport largely remained off the roads due to the strike, they said.
