Noting that the Centre has "failed" to invoke anti-black marketing laws, CPI(M) today
held the Centre and Haryana government responsible for price rise.

Addressing an election rally here, CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat lashed at PM's recent speech attributing price rise to global reason and said this was "totally baseless," as the world economy faced recession. He also accused the Congress of "causing a wedge" among poor in the name of BPL and APL.

"When 12 states are giving 35 kg foodgrains at Rs2 per kg, the Centre is trying to reduce the amount to 25kg. and enhanced the rate to Rs3 per kg," he said here while seeking support for party nominee Suresh Kumar.

The CPI(M) leader said that Haryana government has not implemented NREGA and the claim of development are untrue as it excluded overwhelming people and number of billionaire have risen from 9 to 53  during the last 5 years. "About 77 per cent among unorganised sector workers are living at 20 Rs per day," he said and added, "Politics in Haryana has become business and only the left parties can change it."

The NREGA must be extended to urban areas, he said and referred to Tripura in this context where the NREGA was implemented in urban areas too. "On one hand government pretended that it had no money for social welfare schemes, while tax exemption was granted to corporate sector in this year's union budget," he said.
