Court orders probe against Vejalpur police

The metropolitan magistrate of juvenile court has ordered for a departmental inquiry and has sought for the status report in connection with a case in which a minor was allegedly assaulted at the Vejalpur police station. 

Dipak Makwana, 17, (name changed) was allegedly assaulted by Vejalpur police station PI, JM Bharwad. As per the case details, Makwana was arrested by Vastrapur police in connection with a theft case on February. 

Makwana was later produced in juvenile court and after which the Vejalpur police took him in their custody on a transfer warrant. After taking custody of Makwana, the Vejalpur police allegedly tortured him. 

Moreover, Makwana was allegedly hit in his stomach and chest by Bharwad as the former refused to sit at a place as asked by Bharwad. On February, 19, Makwana was again produced in court. But he was allegedly threatened of dire consequences by the Vejalpur police if he told the magistrate about the incident.

On February, 23, Makwana was sent to the remand home where he complained of serious stomach and chest pain.

Later, he was admitted to VS Hospital where he was kept under observation for few days. Makwana later narrated the incident to remand home officials who lodged a complaint against Vejalpur police at juvenile court.
