Court dismisses complaint against megastar Amitabh Bachchan
Village head of Daulatpur alleged that the actor had "cheated" people by announcing setting up of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Mahavidyala Degree College in the village, whereas no work has started even two years later.
A district court in Barabanki today dismissed the plea seeking direction to file a case against filmstar Amitabh Bachchan and five others over alleged delay in setting up a college named after his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai.
Additional chief judicial magistrate Shiv Chand dismissed the plea on the basis of police report submitted in the court yesterday that the prayer made by the village head of Daulatpur, Raj Kumari was baseless, lacked depth and was worth rejecting.
Earlier, on May 31, the judge had asked the Mohamadpur Khala police to probe the charge levelled by the village head against millennium star Amitabh Bachchan and others.
On behalf of Raj Kumari, her son Avnindra Singh had moved to court for filing a case against Bachchan senior and five others including his representatives, alleging that the actor had "cheated" people by announcing setting up of AishwaryaRaiBachchanMahavidyalaDegreeCollege in the village, whereas no work has started even two years after that.
Bachchan had purchased 16 bighas of land in Daulatpur village in Fatehpur tehsil of the district in two phases—in 2006 and 2007--and had announced setting up of the college.
A foundation laying ceremony and a public meeting ere also held there in 2008 in the presence of Bachchan family, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and then general secretary, Amar Singh.
According to the complaint, work for setting up of the college as per the announcement was to be carried out by Nishtha foundation of the then SP MP Jaya Prada.
However, the police in its report said that all the allegations levelled by the complainant were baseless and found untrue during investigation.
