‘Corrupt’ C'Wealth Games contractor held

A key Commonwealth Games (CWG) contractor, who got contracts worth Rs165 crore, was arrested by CBI on Tuesday for allegedly using unfair means and providing equipment at astronomical rates, in connivance with top organising committee (OC) officials.

Investigation documents in possession of DNA show that a staggering Rs25 crore was paid by the accused contractor Binu Nanu as bribe, to top OC officials, including former OC director general VK Verma.

Nanu is the managing director of Meroform India Pvt Ltd and GL Events Pvt Ltd.  A substantial part of CBI’s interrogation of Nanu will focus on who was bribed and how. Verma’s name has been categorically stated in the investigation documents as a likely beneficiary of the kickbacks.

Other firms who bagged overlays contracts by allegedly paying kickbacks are: BJP member Sudhanshu Mittal’s Pico-Deepali overlays consortium, Nussli Ltd Switzerland and ESAJV:D Art: Indo consortium.
