The Vastrapur police in a joint operation with the Detection of Crime Branch nabbed three kidnappers in broad daylight near Gujarat University on Monday.
It seems that the city police have learnt a lesson from the murder case of the Sanand boy, Shaktisinh Jhala, who was allegedly murdered due to the delayed action on part of the police.
This time the police immediately swung into action and nabbed the kidnappers red-handed. The Vastrapur police in a joint operation with the Detection of Crime Branch nabbed three kidnappers in broad daylight near Gujarat University on Monday.
The kidnappers had come to collect the extortion money from the family of the kidnapped man.
The man, Naresh Panchal, 24, was kidnapped on May 21 by a group of people in a car from Thaltej area. The police swung into action immediately after Panchal's brother-in-law, Harsad Panchal registered a police complaint. Harsad named Ashish Patel, Rakesh Patel and Haresh Patel as the three accused who kidnapped Naresh. Also three other names were mentioned in the complaint.
According to the police, Harsad owed Rs50,000 to Ashish over a transaction in the share market. Harsad failed to return the money to Ashish, who along with few of his friends came to Harsad's office in Thaltej and kidnapped his brother-in-law Naresh from the office.
Later on, the kidnappers made a ransom call and demanded Rs50 lakh from Harsad who informed the police. The cops traced the kidnappers' calls and took over the telephonic conversation posing ostensibly as Naresh's family members.
The deal, however, was finalised at Rs7 lakh and few tolas of gold ornaments. When the kidnappers came to collect the money, the police nabbed them. Inspector DD Damor of Vastrapur police station told DNA that the kidnappers were arrested at the end of a long operation conducted to trace them. He added that the kidnappers are in their remand for two days.
