Satellite resident Ashish Barot, in a complaint with Gujarat University police station, said that four policemen beat him up on Thursday night.

One of the cops was in plainclothes. Barot is convenor of Bajrang Dal, VHP and a marketing manager with a private firm.

According to the complaint filed by Barot, he and his friend Kunal Shah had gone to see the demolished Hanuman Temple near IIMA campus on Thursday night. On reaching the spot, Barot asked AMC officials present at the site the reasons for the demolition. The officials said that they had received orders to do so from top officials.

Barot introduced himself to the cops as a VHP member, after which the latter asked him to leave the demolition site. As Barot and Shah were leaving, a cop commented that VHP is responsible for spreading communal violence in the city. He also chased the duo brandishing his stick at them. Barot fell down but the policeman kept hitting him. The policemen abused them and threatened to break their bones if they didn't leave the site.

Barot was seriously injured in the brawl while Shah had fainted. 108 Emergency Services was called and they both were taken to VS Hospital for treatment.

Interestingly, a complaint in the matter was not registered for two days. However, Barot and Shah, accompanied by other VHP members, later went to Gujarat University police station and lodged a complaint against the four cops who attacked them.

"The complaint (against the policemen) has been registered and investigations are going on in the matter," said DR Vadher, police inspector with Gujarat University police station.
