Convicted prisoner dies in Orissa jail

A convicted prisoner of Bonai sub-jail in Sundargarh district died in Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) here last night.

The jail sources said the prisoner, Rathu Das (50), was shifted to RGH yesterday after his condition became serious and died due to heart attack in RGH.

Das, who was undergoing 10 years jail term in rape case of April, 2005, became unconscious in the jail and he was rushed to government hospital at Bonai. He was subsequently shifted to RGH.

Das who hails from Saradhapur village under Lahunipada police limit in sundargarh district was convicted for raping his own daughter on April,3,2005.

His body will be handed over to his family members after postmortem, the sources said.
