Six members of an international gang involved in cross border smuggling of contraband were arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) from Agra and a haul of refined cannabis recovered from them.

On a tip off, an STF team arrested six persons yesterday and recovered 131 kilograms of cannabis worth two crore, packed in 124 packets from their vehicle, additional director general (ADG) of police Brij Lal told reporters here today.

Those arrested were identified as Sunil Sharma, Shiv Kaliash, Shiv Kumar, Lalit Narain, Ashish Singh an Raja Bakshi, he said.

The ADG said that from quite sometime information was being received that refined cannabis prepared in Nepal was being smuggled in different parts of the country by an organised racket.

He said that acting on a tip off the STF team rounded a vehicle in Sikandara area in Agra and arrested the smugglers.

During interrogation, Sunil Sharma revealed that from the last five to six years he was smuggling the contraband in the country in partnership with a Nepalese citizen Lalit Narain, he said.

"The contraband recovered from the arrested criminals was kept in special cavities in the vehicle," Brij Lal said, adding that it was worth crore rupees in the international market.
