Opposition Congress on Saturday launched a drive against the expulsion of leader of opposition from Gujarat Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil for the entire budget session. Gohil was suspended after he refused to apologise for his comment alleging nexus between the state government and Adani. The party has shown determination to take their fight against the government to village level if Gohil's suspension will not be cancelled with immediate effect.

Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has termed this drive as a fight against values. Terming it as a historic event, GPCC president Arjun Modhwadia said, "The BJP and members of other opposition parties did not allow the parliament to function for many days; still the UPA government did not suspend any Member of Parliament."

He also went on to say that chief minister Narendra Modi's style of working is not only dangerous for state's democracy but Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) democracy. "BJP might be under some compulsion to continue with him as their leader, but the people of Gujarat are not under any such pressure. The Congress party will raise people's voice and nobody can stop it."

The Porbandar MLA further said that the government expected the Congress to create ruckus following Gohil's expulsion, but it was disappointed. "Consequently, the state government has stopped live telecast of house proceedings so that people of Gujarat cannot know about state government's corruption," he said.

Modhwadia said that the state government has given land to Adani at a rent of Re1 per square metre and the company is recovering Rs4,000 to Rs10,000 per square metre rent from state and central government's public sector unit.

Congress members displayed placards alleging nexus between the state government and corporates such as Adani and Essar apart from shouting slogans against the chief minister and state government.
