Amid looming uncertainty over the fate of Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament, Congress' women's wing in Punjab today said it would oppose any move by sitting legislators to field their kin from seats to be reserved for the fair sex in the wake of the legislation.

Though favouring the long-awaited bill, state president of Mahila Congress Ratna and vice president Harsimrat Kaur made it clear that they would oppose any effort by established male leaders to get tickets for women in their family for the reserved seats.

Maintaining that chance should be given to those women leaders and activists who are already active and have been working at the grassroots, they said they will take a delegation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to make her aware of the issue.

"We will not allow the male political heavyweights of the state to field women members of their families from such (reserved) seats and hold them by proxy," Kaur said.
