Against the backdrop of the controversy over collection of funds for Sonia Gandhi's rally in Maharashtra, opposition BJP today alleged that use of money power for holding rallies had become the "core belief" of the Congress.

"Congress has made use of money power for holding rallies one of its core beliefs. This truth has come out now. This is a routine practice for the Congress," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said here.

A news channel had yesterday caught on camera two senior Congress leaders from Maharashtra -- Manik Rao Thakre and Satish Chaturvedi -- discussing how crores of rupees were being spent for holding party president Sonia Gandhi's rally in Wardha.

Javadekar maintained that the central leadership of the Congress could not be absolved of the charge as they knew about the whole process and the funds involved.

"Congress central unit is acting as if it was not aware. But the Centre always knows. Though they are in denial, they know the truth," he said.

This expose had shown the real style of functioning, face and character of the Congress, Javadekar said.
