Looks like the Opposition is all set to give a tough fight to Narendra Modi’s Sadhbhavna Mission. The Congress has pulled up its socks for the campaigning for the election.

Congress leaders will start a statewide ‘Sardar Sandesh Yatra’ from January 2, 2012. The yatra will pass through 160 assembly and 26 Lok Sabha constituencies. The top leaders of the party will head each route.

Arjun Modhwadia, president of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) said on Friday, “We will take up the yatra to protest and make public aware about BJP government’s double standards. On one hand it is talking about Sardar’s values and on the other hand it is playing politics in his name. There are pending issues -farmers, farm laborers, cattle herders and grazing lands (gauchars), and common men in the state. During LK Advani’s yatra in the state a BJP worker had put his feet on the head of Sardar’s statue in Nadiad.”

Shaktisinh Gohil, leader of the Opposition, said, “All Congress leaders will be present at the start for the yatra. Each leader will lead the route assigned to him or her. All leaders will move on their respective routes and will halt at the same place with other party workers. This is a journey towards reinstating the self-respect of people of Gujarat with the values instilled by Sardar Patel.”

Shankarsinh Vaghela said, “Sardar and Gandhi are not the means to gain power. We are undertaking this yatra to spread the message of change in the 2012 assembly elections.”

Former GPCC president Siddharth Patel said, “Arjun Modhwadia will lead the route from Porbandar to Vallabh Vidhyanagar, Shaktisinh Gohil from Somnath to Vallabh Vidhyanagar, Shankarsinh Vaghela from Mansa to Vallabh Vidhyanagar, Tushar Chaudhary from Bardoli to Vallabh Vidhyanagar. There will be two yatras staring from Ahmedabad on two different routes which will be led by Narhari Amin, Siddharth Patel and Bharatsinh Solanki.”

(Narhari Amin said, “BJP is creating fake impression on people’s mind talking about development. Modi is trying to divide Patidar (Patel) community. Many BJP leaders are dreaming to become Chhote Sardar and trying to be identified with Sardar. We will make people aware about all this in the yatra.”)
