Union cabinet minister for Road Transport and Highways CP Joshi visited Gujarat on Saturday to train Congress MLAs in a three days workshop.
The workshop is being held for Congress MLAs to train them in various governmental, political and administrative practices.
Talking to media at the Gulmohar Green Golf and Country Club Joshi said, "There are some basic differences in UPA-1 and UPA-2. He said the former made schemes for the poor while the latter is concentrating on giving rights and entitlement to the poor. In UPA-2 we are not making schemes but making laws to give the poor their rights."
He further said that that the Congress-led UPA government has given the Right to Information, Right to Education Act and are now bringing the Right to Food and Health act in the parliament.
"We have linked minimum wages of MNREGA with the consumer price index to provide benefit to the poor."
Siddharth Patel, former president of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee said MLAs will be trained in analysing budgets, understanding long term effects of the new bills, various schemes of UPA-2 government and where Gujarat stands on various economic and social parameters.
MLAs are being trained by Political Research Society (PRS) - a body which trains members of parliament and political leaders.
Gujarat Congress MLAs will be trained in communication skills, budget analysis, effective allocation and utilisation of funds and grants, how to raise questions in the assembly, personality development etc.
National level subjects experts like CV Madhkar, Anil Nayar, MR Madhvan, Yamini Aiyar among others.
