The Congress top brass including state president Siddharth Patel, Shaktisinh Gohil, Tushar Chowdhary and other delegates were in Surat on Monday to participate in a rally protesting against the policies of the BJP led state government. The Nagrik Adhikar Rally was organized by GPCC at Makkai-pool to address various problems faced by the deprived society, especially the slum dwellers. The Congress leaders accused BJP led government of being anti-poor and of working only for industrialists.

"More than 500 societies are struggling to get even potable water.  Thousands of slum dwellers have been shifted to far-away places, while land is being sold to land developers. Is this BJP's approach towards commoners? We will become more aggressive in coming days and will raise the issue at various platforms," said Siddharth Patel, the state Congress president.

Union Tribal Minister for State, Tushar Chaudhary said that UPA government has allotted Rs2, 500 crore for various developmental projects in Surat and is contemplating to allot Rs25, 000 crore. There is no guarantee that money will be utilized optimally, he said.
