Opposition Congress on Wednesday sought CBI probe in the January 27 violence in Yanam, an enclave of Puducherry in Andhra Pradesh, where a top official of a company was lynched by its workers after a trade union leader allegedly died in police action.

Former Tourism Minister, Malladi Krishna Rao, MLA, told reporters after his meeting with Chief Minister N Rangasamy that he had requested the Chief Minister to order a CBI probe into the incidents of violence.

Agitated workers of Regency Ceramics went on a rampage after their leader Murali Mohan was allegedly killed in police action outside the factory and attacked the residence of President (Operations) KC Chandrasekhar, resulting in his fatal head injuries.

Rao also wanted the Chief Minister to initiate steps to get the lockout in the company lifted.
