Ugly scenes were witnessed in the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha today as Congress and BSP legislators rushed to attack a Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) member, who tore a placard in the House.

The incident occurred immediately after Speaker Harbans Kapoor adjourned the House amid pandemonium over the issue of the reservation in afternoon.

UKD's Om Gopal Rawat snatched the placard from Congress member Qazi Nizamuddin, who was demanding the implementation of the Madan Kaushik report on caste certificates.

Both members of BSP and Congress rushed to attack Rawat, creating ugly scenes in the House. Rawat was heard saying that "reservation politics will not be allowed in Uttarakhand".

On the other hand, both BSP and Congress members claimed that reservation was mandatory under the Constitution.

For nearly 15 minutes, the ugly scenes continued even as state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant tried to pacify the agitating members.

"What has happened is very bad... We should not behave in ugly manner. Decorum has to be maintained in the House," Pant said.

Later, Nizamuddin along with other Congress members held a dharna in the lobby of the House to protest against the action of Rawat.

Nizamuddin asked the government to table the Kaushik report in the House for the implementation.
