The Congress has termed Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leaders as opportunists after they withdrew support to the Congress in the assembly ahead of the polls. Congress campaign manager Mauvin Godinho said on Monday that Dhavalikar brothers (both legislators of the MGP) are opportunists and although they might be thinking that they would gain with their alliance with BJP, they are going to be losers.
Reacting to the statement by former minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar, who had said the Congress was ‘not corrupt’ but ‘a few ministers in the party are corrupt’, Godinho said, “It is surprising that after sharing power with the Congress for five years, the MGP is finding the party ministers as corrupt.”
Ahead of the Goa assembly polls, the MGP, with two MLAs, withdrew its support to the Congress-led government to join hands with the BJP. Responding to a question, Godinho said that since the Congress is going to win the Goa polls on its own, there is no question of aligning with the MGP in case of a hung assembly.
The Congress and the NCP have signed a pre poll alliance for the polls.
