A concrete road which will connect Lakhpat and 1175 pole, the last pillar on the border, will soon ease patrolling problems for the Border Security Force (BSF) in the vicinity of Harami Nala in Sir Creek area of Kutch district.
Talking to the media, GS Shekhawat, inspector general, Gujarat Frontier, BSF, said that the 26-km long stretch will be constructed to ease the patrolling in marshy and
muddy areas.
"The work is in progress and twenty-two kilometres of the road have already been constructed. The BSF will face fewer problems while patrolling in the area, once work is completed on the stretch," said Shekhawat.
Shekhawat addressed the BSF jawans at his retirement function as IG, Gujarat Frontier. Shekhawat also felicitated children of jawans studying computer education at the function and encouraged them to be sincere in whatever they take up as their future career option. Talking about enhanced vigilance and security at the border, Shekhawat said that 182 km of fencing has been completed of the total 340 km on the border. About 158 km of fencing is yet to be completed.
The BSF will soon get two hovercrafts worth Rs14.5 crore from the Ministry of Home Affairs to help in patrolling in the muddy areas of Sir Creek. "The hovercrafts will be smaller in size which would aid in patrolling in smaller creeks," Shekhawat said. The BSF had declared earlier that it will make 71 composite BOPs. In all, 34 of the BOPs have already been constructed and the rest will be constructed soon.
‘IB network stronger post-26/11’ Sources in the BSF say that the frequency of the intelligence inputs has increased after the Mumbai terror attack. “The agencies concerned are working jointly on specific IB inputs related to infiltration or terror threats,” Shekhawat told DNA.
The chief further said that the police, coast guard, BSF, navy, army and customs department share information on regular basis which has helped to scrutinise the inputs as well as react on specific leads.
Italian ATVs to aid BSF
The BSF will soon get All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) which will be made in Italy. The vehicles will be capable to function in marshy areas as well as deserts. However, the number of vehicles the BSF will get is still not known. Trials of the vehicles have already been conducted near the borders and a final order has already been placed with an Italian firm.
