CMS Vatavaran to bring wildlife film festival to Ahmedabad

The festival will be inaugurated on January 17 at the National Institute of Design and the opening ceremony will feature a widely acclaimed film, The Asiatic Lion -- on a roll call by Praveen Singh.

CMS Vatavaran one of India's premier environment and wildlife film festivals, will be organised in Ahmedabad from January 17-22.

The festival will be inaugurated on January 17 at the National Institute of Design and the opening ceremony will feature a widely acclaimed film, 'The Asiatic Lion -- on a roll call' by Praveen Singh.

"The festival will concentrate on screening of green films in addition to a host of other activities, namely, workshops panel discussions, ecotour and creativity based competitions across several schools and colleges in Ahmedabad," senior manager communications, Narendra Yadav said during a press conference.

While nearly 40 Indian and international green films will be screened during the festival, six films are focusing on various environmental issues in Gujarat.

These films are, 'The Asiatic Lion -- on a roll call', 'The Jewel of Wetlands -- Sarus Crane', 'My Purple Sunbird', Chakalia — The Phoenix', 'Healers for all reasons' and 'The Khur of the salt flats'. Entry is free for all.

"The festival has been divided into two parts, first is the competitive part in New Delhi and then it is a running festival. The 4th traveling edition of CMS VATAVARAN is being organised in eight different cities of the country.

"Starting from Shimla in July 2010, the festival was organised at Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Port Blair, Shillong, and Trivandrum during the latter part of 2010," Yadav said.

While their associate partner is Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), Young Explorers Track Innovators (YETI) is its organizing partners.
