Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and paid obeisance at the Vaishno Devi shrine.

Accompanied by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chidambaram took stock of the security situation and law and order at a high-level meeting held at CM's residence here.

The meeting reviewed various measures on anti-militancy front, such as cross-border infiltration, synergy between various security agencies and anti-militancy operations.

Senior officials from security forces, police and intelligence agencies participated in the meeting.

Earlier in the day, the Home Minister paid obeisance at the cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi in Trikuta hills in Reasi district.

Chidambaram, who arrived this morning from New Delhi for the day-long meeting, flew to Vaishnodevi shrine amid tight security arrangements.

Meanwhile, expressing happiness over the present law and order situation in the state, DGP Kuldeep Khoda said, "This year militancy-related incidents have decreased. In the first three months of 2012, 26 militancy related incidents took place as compared to 48 incidents last year during the same period, showing 45% overall decrease."

Civilian killings have decreased by 50% and there was no killing of security force personnel so far this year as compared to last year's figure of three jawans killed between January to March, the DGP said.
