The Gujarat high court had granted moratorium of one month to the CG Road Shop Owners' Association for making alternative arrangement for parking space.

The moratorium ends on December 22, but the traders have failed to find a suitable plot.

The traders had requested postponement of the sealing drive carried out by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and showed willingness to provide alternative parking space for the customers.

Their plan to buy a plot in the area nearby CG Road could not be implemented due to scarcity of open plots and also the higher cost of land in the area.

The association has issued a circular to the shop and office owners to contribute Rs50 and Rs25 per square feet respectively towards the fund for creating the parking facility.

"We expect to collect around Rs3-4 crore for creating parking facility," said one of the office bearers of the association. He added that two plots identified by the association could not serve their purpose. The shop owners have pinned their hopes on the two plots reserved by AMC on CG Road. "Both the plots are reserved for parking purpose and we are ready to provide finance for setting up multi-storey parking," he said.

However, the association is also not getting any cooperation from office owners as they do not associate themselves with the problem faced by the shop owners on CG Road, alleged the office bearer.

The shop owners are expecting a change in law by the state government. Jitendra Chauhan, president of CG Road Shop Owners Association, said that they have presented their problems before the court.
