Centre had no role in incidents post-Bhopal tragedy: Sachin Pilot

Terming the Bhopal gas judgment as 'disappointing', Union minister of state for posts and telecom Sachin Pilot today said that the then Central government had no role in the incidents that took place after the tragedy.

"Though I respect judiciary, in my personal opinion it (the judgment) was disappointing as a large number of people were affected by the tragedy, but the then Central government had no role in the incidents that took place after it," Pilot told reporters here at the BSNL office.

When asked whether he meant that the then state government was responsible for the safe release of chairman of the Union Carbide Warren Anderson, Pilot reiterated his earlier statement that the then Central government had no role in it.

To a question on providing state government plane to Anderson and the then collector and superintendent of police ferrying him in official car, he said that the committee formed by the Centre would look into all aspects associated with the gas tragedy so that truth behind the incident comes out.
