CBI raids at the city-based NGO Tamil Maiyam in connection with the second-generation mobile telephony spectrum scam would not affect the image of the annual cultural festival "Chennai Sangamam" being conducted by it, DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi said in Chennai today.

"It (CBI raids) will not affect the image of the Chennai Sangamam festival", she told reporters here in response to a query.

She said the NGO is engaged in many social activities and the raids would not affect its day-to-day activities.

On Dec 15, the NGO in which Kanimozhi is a director and the office of an auditor of former telecom minister A Raja were searched as part of the CBI raids carried out across Tamil Nadu in connection with the 2G spectrum scam.

The CBI also raided Raja's residence at his native Velur village at Perambalur, the premises of senior journalist and associate editor of Tamil magazine Nakkeran, Raja's auditor here, his siblings at Tiruchirapalli and other close aides in Chennai, Tiruchirappalli and Perambalur districts.

Tamil Maiyam, which describes itself as a registered Indian non-profit organization, was also raided by the CBI.

Kanimozhi, daughter of chief minister M Karunanidhi, is on the board of directors of Tamil Maiyam while Rev Jegath Gasper Raj is the managing trustee.

Kanimozhi along with Jagath Jasper Raj and state tourism minister Suresh Rajan today announced the fifth edition of "Chennai Sangamam" 2011.

"It will be inaugurated by chief minister M Karunanidhi at the Island Grounds here on January 12", Kanimozhi said.

The festival is being organized by Tamil Maiyam in association with the state tourism and culture department with the objective of rejuvenating the old village festivals, folk art and traditional dance forms.

More than 1,000 folk artistes would participate in the week-long festival along with classical singers, musicians and dancers.

The six-day event would be held at beaches, parks, corporation grounds and shopping malls in city and would conclude on January 17 at Elliot's Beach in Besant Nagar, she said.

A separate food festival highlighting cuisines of various towns in the State would also be held, she said.
