CBI arrests BPCL manager in Punjab for alleged graft

A team of CBI officials caught the manager from a hotel in Ambala while he was allegedly receiving bribe money.

The CBI has arrested a territory manager of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in Punjab for allegedly taking bribe from a petrol pump owner for resuming oil supply.

After receiving a complaint, a team of CBI officials caught the manager from a hotel in Ambala while he was allegedly receiving bribe money, CBI spokesperson said in Delhi on Tuesday.

The case is of Yamunagar district where a petrol pump owner alleged that supply to his petrol pump was stopped.

"In the first week of November, when he contacted the concerned official for supply of petroleum products at Oil Depot, Panipat, it was informed to him that supply to their petrol pump has been stopped as per the orders of Territory Manager, BPCL, Lalru," the spokesperson said.

When the owner contacted the manager, he allegedly demanded Rs five lakh for release of supply.

"When the complainant requested that he was not in a position to pay that much amount, the accused told him to pay Rs three lakh for releasing the supply. CBI laid a trap and the Territory Manager, BPCL, Lalru (Punjab) was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs3,00,000 from a hotel in Ambala City in the presence of independent witnesses," the official said.

CBI produced him before the competent court which sent him to 14 days judicial custody.

In another case, an Inspector of Central Excise in Ankleshwar was arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs5000 from a person.
