Car racing kills one in Gujarat, drivers escape

In a road accident on Friday near Makarba Railway Crossing, a speeding Skoda car hit a pedal rickshaw, killing the rickshaw puller on the spot.

The incident took place when two friends in their respective cars Skoda and Swift, were racing and suddenly one of them lost control and hit the pedal rickshaw. The car drivers fled from the spot. Angered by the death of the rickshaw puller, the passersby set both the cars ablaze.

According to RK Patel, deputy superintendent of police, the two
drivers have been detained and investigations are on in the case. Patel said the two car drivers were racing and this led to the accident. One of them is a minor while the other is in his twenties.

The cops said the accident was so fierce that the rickshaw puller identified as Gautam Chunara died on the spot. Sarkhej police have registered a case of rash driving and are investigating on the lines of car race.

"The driver of the Skoda car was racing with the driver of the Maruti Swift car, which was being driven by his friend," a police source said. Soon after the accident, large number of people gathered at the scene. Meanwhile both the drivers managed to flee from the spot.

In another fatal road accident, one person died after slipping from his bike in Bopal on Thursday night. The man identified as Ramniwas is a resident of Abadnagar, Bopal. Ramniwas died while he was being treated in hospital.
