Canadian awards for NIDians’ ideas

The students won the first place for industrial design and they received the overall best collaboration award.

A group of students from NID have bagged several awards at the annual Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education (PACE) global Forum 2011- Vancouver, Canada. The students won the first place for industrial design and they received the overall best collaboration award.

The group has also won first place for market research, whereas in product engineering and manufacturing categories they secured the second position.

The PACE global project theme was Sustainable Urban Transportation for 2030- (SUT), where 7 teams comprising design schools and engineering institutes participated.

NID being one of the PACE institute participated in this global project from Aug-2010 to June-2011. NID students Malav Sanghvi Gaurang Nagre presented the entire design project showcasing the design process, various directions, concepts and final design proposal of vehicle ‘PEEL’ - a retro feel of the conventional jeep.

The presentation also covered contextual research, ideation sketches, user persona and their day in life scenario, final renders and animations of design. The team from NID Ahmedabad was helped by NID Bangalore students who worked on developing the interface.

The overall project was evaluated in four catagories: Market research, Product engineering, Industrial design, manufacturing engineering. NID’s project was appreciated for system level design thinking and design process.

The students’ works were reviewed by NID faculties Vipul Vinzuda, Dr Ranjit Konker and Bhaskar Bhatt.
