CBI has seized a camcorder and a computer which may be holding vital clues about the mysterious disappearance of nurse Bhanwari Devi and the agency has sought help of Central Forensic Science Laboratory as well as private experts to retrieve the data.

The agency stumbled upon the camcorder and the computer during one of its searches in the case only to realise that data has been erased from them, sources in the agency said.

Officials suspect that the camera and computer might have been used to film and store some controversial footage which could hold vital clues about the reasons behind the disappearance of Bhanwari.

Bhanwari (36), posted as auxiliary nurse and midwife at a sub-centre in Jaliwada village, around 120 kms from Jodhpur, went missing on September one.

Her husband Amarchand had alleged she was abducted at the behest of former Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna and his associates.

The charges were denied by Maderna who was sacked by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on October 16.

Earlier this month, the CBI has announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information about whereabouts of Bhanwari. The agency also announced another Rs one lakh for information leading to the arrest of absconding accused Sahiram who is suspected to be the mastermind behind Devi's disappearance.

As the probe into the case gained momentum, CBI is also examining the alleged role of Maderna and the agency believes that the nurse could have been killed.

The call records of cell phones used by Bhanwari Devi's kidnappers indicate that Sahiram was in touch with Maderana until the day she was kidnapped from Jodhpur's Bilara area on September 1, official sources said.
