C'Wealth Games scam: Suresh Kalmadi to be in Tihar jail till June 1

Kalmadi was arrested by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on April 25 for allegedly awarding a contract for the Games to a Swiss company at an inflated rate of Rs 141 crore.

A Delhi court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of former Commonwealth Games (CWG) organising committee chief Suresh Kalmadi in connection to financial irregularities during the mega event till June 1.

Meanwhile, Kalmadi’s lawyers moved an application seeking the court’s permission for his appearance via video conference. The court will hear the application on May 21, when it is likely to pronounce its order on his bail plea.  The 66-year-old Lok Sabha MP from Pune is presently lodged in Tihar Jail since May 4.

The court also extended judicial custody of organising committee joint director general (sports) ASV Prasad and organising committee deputy director general (procurement) Surjit Lal till June 1.

Kalmadi was arrested by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on April 25 for allegedly awarding a contract for the Games to a Swiss company at an inflated rate of Rs 141 crore.

Others arrested, include Verma, Lalit Bhanot, Sanjay Mohindroo, M Jayachandran, TS Darbai and Kalmadi's PA Shekhar Deorukar.
