The CBI investigation into the Commonwealth Games (CWG) scam has thrown up more dirt. The agency has found that Nussli (Switzerland) Ltd, ESAJV D Art Indo Consortium, GL Events-Meroform (France), Pico Deepali (Delhi), four companies that bagged contracts worth Rs630.23 for Games overlays, paid huge kickbacks to the organising committee.

One such contract was for installing 19 LED screens for
public display systems (PDS) at Jawaharlal Nehru and Srifort
stadiums.

According to CBI documents accessed by DNA, Pico Deepali, which won the PDS tender, made more than 300% profit. It charged organising committee Rs29.4 crore for the job, but paid only Rs8.56 crore to Hyderabad-based MIC Electronics Limited, which executed the work.

“During investigation, we came to know that M/s Pico Deepali sub-contracted installation of all the 19 LED screens to MIC Electronics for a rent of Rs.8.56 crore. But shockingly, it charged the organising committee around Rs30 crore and earned a profit of more than 300% by quoting exorbitant prices,” a senior CBI official close to the probe said.

Sources said the aforesaid four companies paid organising committee officials 15% of the contract amount.

“In collusion with organising committee officials, these four overlays vendors made big gains from the Games. They paid huge kickbacks to organising committee officials to obtain contracts at exorbitant rates,” the CBI official added.

“The difference of more than 300% in LED screens payment is just an example. The contractors rented many more overlays items at very low prices, but charged huge money from the organising committee. Select contractors indulged in collusive bidding with organising committee officials and quoted unrealistically high rates,” the CBI official said.
