A speeding private bus on Monday rammed into a dumper truck near Manglej village in Karjan taluka of Vadodara district on NH-8, killing 5 people on the spot and leaving 15 others hurt.

The injured were rushed to SSG Hospital in Vadodara city in ‘108’ ambulances. The bus, with 55 passengers, was on its way to Surat from Savar Kundla in Amreli district.

The incident took place around 5 am on Monday when the tyre on the driver’s side of the garbage truck which was ahead of the bus, burst. As a result, the vehicle spun and its one side came right in front of the private bus, which was trailing it at a speed.

The bus driver had little time to stop the vehicle from hitting the dumper. Police said high speed and not maintaining safe distance between the bus and the dumper caused the mishap. A case has been filed and Karjan police is investigating it.
