The state CID (Crime) picked up the managing director of the SN Group of builders, Chitrak Shah, for allegedly attempting to engineer fake documents with an intention to illegally encroach upon a piece of land worth crores.

Shah was picked up by the CID (Crime) on Monday morning. In-charge additional director general of police, PP Pandey, confirmed that Shah was picked up by CID (Crime) officers, and that he could be arrested. However, the arrest was not confirmed by CID (Crime) officers.

Inspector general of police, CID (Crime), KD Patadia, and deputy superintendent of police, CID (Crime), BJ Jadeja, did not respond despite repeated attempts by this newspaper. Chitrak Shah's colleague Taral Shah, on his part, told DNA that he did not know anything about the case.

The complainant at whose behest Shah has been picked up and allegedly arrested, Mahendra Patel, told DNA that he had filed a complaint with the Gujarat high court, accusing Shah of making a fake power of attorney to usurp the land owned by his father.

Patel said that Shah and others cheated him by getting a new survey number for the land, allegedly with the involvement of the talati, mamlatdar and two Auda officers.

The CID (Crime) may arrest these officials in the next few days. The police will produce Shah in the court on Tuesday afternoon.
Patel had filed the application in the high court when he found out that his ancestors' land was allegedly taken away by Shah and others.

The respondent in the case even went to the Supreme Court to evade arrest by the CID (Crime), but the apex court retained the high court's decision to prosecute Shah.

Shah is the managing director of the SN Group, whose brand 'Shivalik projects' is widely present in the state. Sources in the real estate sector told DNA that Shah is seen as someone with a dynamic personality, and that he took the group to the highest possible level during his time, after his father Satish Nenchand founded the group.

SN Group was also in the news when Shikhar flats in Satellite, constructed by the group, collapsed during the Gujarat earthquake of 2001.
