The Left Front will field Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in its political battle against the state’s governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi.

The CM will recount occasions when Gandhi violated the Constitution and the chief minister’s authority by issuing statements favouring the opposition. Bhattacharjee will raise the matter at the Chief Ministers’ Conference on Internal Security starting in New Delhi on August 17.

Though his party, the CPI(M), had often been critical of Gandhi for his ‘bias’ towards Trinamool Congress, Bhattacharjee had refrained from making any comments. But the CPI(M) believes it is time to raise the matter at an administrative level, such as the CM’s meet and will use Bhattacharjee to articulate its position. The CPI(M) central committee has okayed the strategy.

At the conference, Bhattacharjee will say that the governor repeatedly violated his constitutional authority by issuing “politically biased” and “partial” statements to the media.
