Accusing the Mayawati government of misusing official machinery in three-tier panchayat elections, Uttar Pradesh Congress today demanded that the results should be announced only after the State Election Commission's approval.

In a memorandum to governor BL Joshi, a delegation of Congress leaders also demanded a compensation of Rs2 lakh each to those killed due to dengue and viral fever in the state.

The leaders alleged that the government had failed to conduct panchayat polls properly and a number of people were killed across the state.

"We have demanded that an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh should be given to the kin of each of those killed during the polls," senior party leader Neeraj Bora said.
