In the wake of various court decisions on land acquisition in NOIDA and Greater NOIDA, Congress in Uttar Pradesh today alleged that the ruling BSP has betrayed both farmers as well as the middle class and demanded immediate resignation of the chief minister.

"These verdicts have exposed as to how the government betrayed both the farmers whose land had been acquired as well as the middle classes who had invested their earnings in the hope of owning a house," Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Rita Bahuguna Joshi said in a statement.

After these verdicts, this government has lost the moral right to continue in office and the chief minister should resign from her post immediately, she said.

"The court verdicts have exposed the blatant misuse of law and forcible acquisition without paying proper compensation by the government whose only aim is generating money in the name of development," Joshi alleged.

After the court orders the government has transferred some officials to shift the blame but people are well aware that it is the chief minister who is responsible.

Coming out in support of the investors who had booked flats in these areas, Joshi said in case the BSP government does not pay heed to redress their problems, Congress would stage protest in NOIDA and if required would also take recourse in the court.

On July 6, the Supreme Court had struck down acquisition of 156 hectares of land acquired by Greater NOIDA Industrial Development Authority in Shahberi village in NOIDA Extension and on July 19 the Allahabad High Court quashed acquisition of 589.13 hectares of land in Patwari and Dewla villages, in the Gautambuddh Nagar district, by the GNIDA.

On the alleged misuse of the NRHM funds by the state government, Joshi said though an inquiry had been ordered following pressure mounted by Congress workers who sought information under the RTI but there are chances that the government might limit its scope.
