BSF lodges protest with Pakistani rangers over infiltration bids

In a tough posture over continued infiltration bids from across the International Border (IB), BSF warned of counter action if such incidents continued.

The Border Security Force (BSF) today lodged a strong protest with their Pakistani counterparts over the latest incidents of infiltration on the International Border in Akhnoor sector warning them of counter action if the incursions continued.

"A flag meeting was held with Pakistan Rangers in Tent Border Out Post (BOP) in forward belt along the IB today in connection with yesterday's three infiltration bids. We registered a strong protest with them", a senior BSF official told PTI.

In a tough posture over continued infiltration bids from across the International Border (IB), BSF warned of counter action if such incidents continued.

"We have told them there would always be a counter-action and counter-firing, if such incidents recur in future", he said.

There have been eight infiltration bids and two ceasefire violations in the past ten days.  The first infiltration bid this year was foiled by BSF at Narainpur Border outpost in Ramgarh sub-sector of Samba district on January 4. There was another infiltration bid and ceasefire violation along the LoC in Balakote area of Poonch on January 8.

A BSF patrol party foiled a bid in the forward area of Garkhal in Pargwal belt of Akhnoor on January 10. BSF troops also foiled another infiltration bid in Alfa Machail post in Akhnoor along International Border (IB) on January 11.

One BSF jawan was killed when Pak troops violated the ceasefire and troops foiled an infiltration bid in Sabzian belt along LoC in Poonch on January 12. Three infiltration bids were foiled in Tent BOP area along IB in Akhnoor sector yesterday.

Information from various security agencies involved in security grid in J&K has put figure of infiltration attempts at 433 in 2009, which is 91 attempts more than 2008.

As per police figures, 342 infiltration attempts were made from across the border in 2008, while 2007 and 2006 reported 535 and 573 such attempts respectively along the LoC and IB in J&K.
