Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa today admitted that he had denotified 7.5 acres in the city under powers vested with him but dismissed as "baseless" and a "figment of imagination" allegations of irregularities levelled by JDS against him.

"Yes, it is a fact that I have denotified 7.5 acres of land acquired by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) for formation of residential plots at Arkavathy layout. I have done this exercising powers vested with me," Yeddyurappa told reporters here.

Hitting back at JDS leader and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, Yeddyurappa also rubbished his allegation that he allotted a residential site in a prime locality to his MP son BY Raghavendra.

"I have allotted sites to MPs and MLAs of all parties including Congress, JDS and BJP," Yeddyurappa said.

Yeddyurappa's sharp reaction came after Kumaraswamy, earlier in the day, accused him of denotifying lands in Arkavathy layout at "lightning speed" even though BDA had formed sites for distribution.

Accusing Kumaraswamy of making "baseless" allegations, he dismissed as a figment of his imagination the charge of irregularities in denotifying lands.

The allegation was aimed at tarnishing his government's image, Yeddyurappa said, adding, "His designs will not succeed. Let him introspect how much land he denotified as chief minister of JDS-BJP coalition."

Referring to Kumaraswamy's suspicion that Yeddyurappa's signature could have been forged, he asserted, "It is my signature. There is no doubt. I have ordered it."

Seeking to turn the tables on Kumaraswamy, Yeddyurappa said his predecessor had ordered denotification of 60 acres in Arkavathy layout on a single day. "Let him say under which provisions he did this."

Yeddyurappa said on earlier occasions also Kumaraswamy had made "baseless" allegations of corruption against him in the purchase of sarees for distribution to women and in procuring bicycles meant for free distribution to school students.

Kumaraswamy also alleged that Raghavendra had filed a false affidavit to the BDA while securing allotment of a site, despite owning a property in the city.

Under BDA allotment rules, those owning site or house are ineligible for allotment.
