BRTS stations are swanky but sensitive

The launch of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) will bring about a change from the hustle bustle on city roads, with swanky bus stations fitted with modern technology awaiting the citizens of Ahmedabad. The Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd (AJL) has provided a Rs40-lakh modern facelift to conventional bus stations, with world-class infrastructure.

However, there are certain guidelines to be followed by people making use of the new BRTS, making it necessary for them to understand the features at the new bus stations.
The bus stations are constructed along the middle of the BRTS corridor. The stations are 3.5 m wide and 55 m long, with ramps at the entry and exit points.

Each bus station has four automated doors and capacity for four BRTS buses to park at one time.

Moreover, there are special facilities such as ticket windows, turnstile while entering the stations, special entry doors for the physically challenged, tactile tiles for the visually impaired, automated glass doors while entering the buses, and LED screens displaying bus routes and routes maps.

Comfortable stations for the disabled
The BRTS stations have been constructed keeping in mind facilities for the physically challenged and visually impaired. There are ramps on both sides of the bus stations for the former, along with special entry doors. There are also tactile tiles to guide the visually impaired to the automated doors, and there will be announcements of bus arrivals and updates of the bus schedules for their aid.

Higher platform for easy boarding
Unlike other bus services, the BRTS promises easy boarding. Commuters will not have to fear falling down in the hustle bustle while climbing the stairs to the buses. The BRTS buses have semi-low floors and raised platforms. This facility will be most useful to children, senior citizens and the physically challenged.
