Accessing the Maninagar railway station has always been a taxing affair for western Ahmedabad’s residents, but their hardships will be alleviated soon because the BRTS will link the station to the RTO.

Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL) is gearing up to complete the work on the 5 km  stretch running from the Pushpkunj circle to the station by the first half of March. When the work is completed, the residents of western Ahmedabad will be able to reach the railway station directly, without having to take a connecting transport system. Not only will the new route link western Ahmedabad to the Maninagar railway station but will also ensure a swifter journey for the passengers.

When the project on the stretch is concluded, the BRTS would have covered 22 km in the eastern and western part of the city. The network will include the existing 17 km stretch from the RTO to Pushpkunj circle near Kankaria lake.

“The work on some of the bus stations is already underway,” said a senior AJL official.

“And even the infrastructure for the 5 kilometre stretch is ready. The extension from the Pushpkunj circle to Maninagar railway station will be operational by mid March.”

However, unlike in the first phase, the new stretch connecting Maninagar will be a one-way route because the roads there are not wide enough to construct two lanes. “The BRTS bus will therefore have to go round to reach the Dani Limda office before it can make the journey back,” the official said.
