A minor got so addicted to the thrill of stealing bikes that cops say his exploits would make thieves double his age feel like novices. When the law finally caught up with the minor, police recovered a whopping 10 bikes from him.

The minor was arrested by the DCP Zone-1 squad of the police. What's more, the boy, Sameer Patel (name changed) did not sell these bikes but drove them untill they ran out of petrol after which he abandoned them at various locations.

The locations included residential parking lots in posh areas of the city such as Prahladnagar, Ashram road, Vastrapur and Naranpura.

PSI Vasant Patel of zone-1 squad told DNA that the boy was arrested on the basis of a tip-off. "We recovered 10 bikes from various locations after he led us there. We have also arrested his brother (a minor) for aiding him," said Patel.

Sources in the department said that the minor seemed to be suffering from kleptomania (a personality disorder in which a person gets addicted to thieving).

In fact, officials said that Patel was once booked for stealing a bike. However, the moment he was let out, he stole another bike.

Sameer is a student of class XII (commerce) while his younger brother who helped him in his activities is a school dropout. Sources said that Sameer had failed to clear his board exams and later took to thieving.

The police have also come to know that the duo stole bikes by using a key of a Scooty. Police are still trying to find out how they managed to use a Scooty key to unlock bikes. Sources said that Sameer once stole a bike just to reach a railway station.

"Once he stole a bike and reached the railway station. Following this, he took a train to Mumbai. When he returned to the city he again stole a bike to reach his home," said a source.

The source said that it took Sameer on an average about 5 hours to steal, use and dump a bike. "In another instance the brothers stole a bike but after discovering that it needed some repairs they took it to a garage in Shahpur," said the source. "They then told the garage owner that they would come back with petrol to fill the bike and disappeared."
