Bridge build at Samajwadi Party's initiative: Shivpal Yadav

Giving a new twist to political oneupmanship between Congress and BSP over a newly- constructed bridge in Rae Bareli, a senior Samajwadi Party leader has claimed that the structure in the Lok Sabha constituency of Sonia Gandhi was built at the initiative of his party.
           
"Neither the Congress nor BSP can claim the credit for the construction of the said bridge as its foundation was laid by the then chief minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav," SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav told reporters here yesterday.
           
The Rs31 crore bridge over Ganga at Dalmau in Rae Bareli was dedicated to the public for the second time in as many days by Uttar Pradesh's PWD minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui yesterday.
           
State Congress leaders had said party chief Gandhi was to unveil the bridge in the second week of March and met Governor BL Joshi on Wednesday, a day ahead of the scheduled inauguration. Following this Siddiqui had on the same day dedicated the bridge in a hurriedly-organised function.
