Boat capsize; steerman, crew member arrested

The steerman and another crew member of the tourist boat that capsized in Thekkady lake last week, leaving 45 people dead, were arrested today.

The steerman of the double-decker boat Victor Samuel and crew member Anish were arrested by the police team probing the tragedy.

They would be produced before a magistrate court at Peerumade in Idukki district later, police said.
 
A preliminary probe into the boat tragedy had found that an overcrowded upper deck and the steeersman's "carelessness" caused the tourist boat to capsize in the lake here on September 30.
