BMW rams into rickshaw, one killed

A BMW car rammed into an autorickshaw in the wee hours of Saturday on the Sola overbridge killing the auto driver on the spot.  According to sources, the car was being driven by one Pankit Shah when it collided with the rickshaw which was being driven on the wrong side at 12 am on Saturday.

Sources said that Shah was on his way to Gandhinagar when the incident happened. The autorickshaw driver Jayanti Parmar, who sustained severe head injuries, died on the spot. Police inspector BC Mehta of Sola Police station said, "We reached the place immediately. Although the BMW driver escaped unhurt, the rickshaw driver succumbed to his injuries."  Officials said that the accident happened near the railing of the overbridge where there is a dangerous curve.

It should be noted that the overbridge has been declared as an accident prone zone due to frequent accidents on the bridge. Earlier, a spate of accidents were reported on the bridge including one in which four to five cars rammed into each other. Shah has registered a complaint of reckless driving against Parmar.
