Notorious moneylender Vikram Rabari was arrested by the Ghatlodia police on Saturday, allegedly for threatening a woman. Sarlaben Bhatt, a resident of Memnagar, had filed a complaint against the moneylender at Ghatlodia police station. The Ghatlodia police arrested Rabari immediately after the court rejected Vastrapur police's plea for extension of his police custody.

According to Sarlaben's complaint, Rabari had lent her Rs50,000 a few years back but the moneylender had recovered around Rs15 lakh from her against the loan amount and was demanding even more money. When Sarlaben expressed her inability to pay any more money, Rabari had allegedly threatened her.

In response to her complaint, the Ghatlodia police arrested Rabari on Saturday. Earlier, the Vastrapur police had arrested Rabari on July 28 after the doctors said that the moneylender, who was recovering from a suicide attempt, was now out of danger. The court had then granted the Vastrapur police 7 days' custody of Rabari. The 7 days were over on Friday but as the court rejected the police plea for further custody, the Ghatlodia police arrested him on Saturday.

Earlier, Anandnagar police had recorded Rabari's statement in connection with the suicide of the builder, Pankaj Jadhav, but they had not found anything against him. Police inspector of Anandnagar police station, MS Sindha, said that Rabari's statement had been recorded in connection with Jadhav's suicide but no leads have been found.
