In the wake of the blast in Pune, Delhi BJP today demanded stepping up of the overall security in the national capital, including deportation of people staying illegally in the city.

The demands were made to Lt governor of Delhi Tejindra Khanna by a BJP delegation led by senior leader VK Malhotra.

"Intelligence apparatus needs to be upgraded to counter any terrorist threat to the city," the delegation told Khanna.

They also suggested revival of the neighbourhood watch scheme in all colonies in the city to involve the residents in identifying anti-social elements.

Demanding better policing in the city, the delegation told Khanna that Delhi has become the crime capital of the country.

"The ordinary citizen, particularly senior citizens and women are living under constant threat and many do not have the courage to venture out after the sun goes down," it said.

Khanna tried to allay their security apprehensions and promised to take all appropriate measures to improve security in the city.
